About

This page seeks to gather together material and thoughts on China’s influence in the Greater Mekong Subregion. This blog is a research aid for my current PhD thesis which is tentatively entitled Crossroads and changes at the periphery: China’s influence in the Greater Mekong Subregion. This may of course change…

This thesis seeks to determine contemporary attitudes in Southeast Asia towards China’s economic rise by focusing on transnational infrastructure development, investment projects and social developments in the Greater Mekong Subregion. In particular I am interested in the part played by both formal and informal Chinese business networks in facilitating these changes.

I moved to Chiang Mai in October and am at the very very early stages of field research.
